What's in my Shopping Cart: Spring 2019

I'm what I like to call a tortoise shopper. Slow and steady. I don't commit to a clothing or beauty purchase frequently, and when I do, it's after much deliberation and research. Items stay in my online shopping cart for months. Months, I say. I've gotten a few inquires recently as to how I build out my wardrobe, so I've narrowed my wishlist down to what I've deemed the essentials to fill out my spring/summer capsule and restock my vanity and bathroom shelf, and compiled them below in case anyone else is interested.

Palazzo Pants

I have yet to find a dead ringer for what I'm looking for in a perfect palazzo pant. I'm thinking a crepe-y fabric, something that drapes like heavy silk but isn't quite as precious, with a high-rise waist and endlessly long, wide legs. This Chanel Resort '18 jumpsuit most closely approximates the look, but I'd prefer something I can afford before the age of 70. I want to infuse some Italian-film-star glam into my summer wardrobe, and those pants would be the perfect start.

Straw Sun Hat

I've been coveting this Tory Burch straw hat ever since it walked the runway last fall. But where is it?! Tory has long since launched the rest of SS '19, but this straw hat is still nowhere to be found. It's perfect - it blocks plenty of sun while still looking fashionable and unique, and it's not so giant as to be impractical on a slightly windy day. Looking at you, Jaquemus.

Cotton Wrap Dress

I'm over mini dresses for summer. Unless it's a nice button-down shirtdress, I want something a little more versatile and comfortable. My ideal summer dress is a lightweight cotton wrap that goes past my knees, and has a bit of sleeve. Let's break this down:

Wrap - the most flattering cut on anyone, hands down. Plus, it's adjustable!

Below the knee - No worries about my legs sticking to hot car/public transportation seats.

A little sleeve - No bra strap worries or sunburned shoulders.

Reformation and Réalisation Par both have decent options, but my favorite dress du jour is by a small California designer, Christy Dawn. It ticks all the boxes while feeling pretty and effortless.

Kitten-Heel Thong Sandals

This shoe style has been flying just under the radar for a few years now, and I'm willing to bet this is the summer that it comes into full, and deserved, prominence. Sexy yet comfortable, and available in a candy-store-like variety of colors, the kitten-heel thong is the answer to all your summer footwear queries. Jeffrey Campbell has some cute iterations, but there are a treasure trove of Manolos in all sizes and colors available on The RealReal.

Classic Black Bikini

I have an assortment of multi-colored bikinis that are all faded terribly and losing the elastic in the rear. I promised myself this year that I'd do the research and invest in a quality, classic swimsuit instead of repeating my typical rush to Aerie or Urban Outfitters right before the season's first pool party. I want a solid black in a semi-athletic cut that will work for everything from diving to lounging. My favorite cuts have been by Solid & Striped and Bright Swimwear.

Beach Hair Texturizer

My hair is fine and stick-straight. In winter I can get by with scrunching in a little styling cream and air-drying, but for summer I like a little more volume and wave. My favorite texturizer right now is Playa Endless Summer salt spray. Not only does it give your hair surfer girl body without the crunch, it also protects your strands and scalp from the sun! Oh, and it smells amazing.

Do-it-all Summer Serum

Summer for me is all about minimizing my routine. Especially when I'm traveling, I want to have as few products with me as possible, so they need to be superstars. Leahlani Siren Serum is everything my temperamental, combination skin needs for an overnight reset after a day of sun.

Multi-Use Dab-and-Go Color

I don't want to be lugging around a full makeup bag on vacation - or wearing a full face of makeup in the summer heat, for that matter! My makeup essentials are mascara and a tinted balm for lips and cheeks. So when I stumbled upon this do-it-all nourishing tint from Noto Botanics in a very flattering orangey-red, it immediately made the list.

The Perfect Non-Toxic Mascara

This one's a doozy. I've tried lots of mascaras in my 24 years, and have yet to find a mostly natural one (5 or less on Think Dirty's toxicity scale) that doesn't clump like crazy and flake all over my bottom lid. My top two choices are Ohii's mini mascara, which is more like a lash tint than a mascara, and Josie Maran's Black Oil Mascara, which is a little thick and clumpy for everyday. Until I find my happy middle, I think I'll keep alternating between them. HMU with any suggestions.
